Martie
Francis began work at G.C. Baars (Pty) Ltd at their original
premises in Stanhope Road, Malvern East on 3rd May
1979. She was
employed as Girl Friday and her duties included
switchboard-relief, telexes and bookkeeping.
Following her
marriage in 1981 she worked on a half-day basis for four
years. During
this time she learned the Kardex system – a pre-computer,
manual system of stock recording, order processing, etc.
In 1984 she
moved with the Company to their new premises in Georgetown,
Germiston.
Nowadays her
work still involves stock, debtors and purchase orders but the
whole system has been computerised – a sometimes debatable
improvement!
Over the 25
years of her association with the Company, Martie has seen
many people come and go, and has been involved with many new
innovations, but through it all has maintained her sense of
humour and loyalty.
At a recent
function Martie was presented with an award commemorating her
long service by Mr G.C. Baars,
Chairman and Founder of the Company.
