On the
15th April 2006 Geoff Baars, founder and chairman of the Baars
Group of companies, celebrated his 75th
birthday.
Family
and friends had come together at Gillooly’s Banqueting &
Conference Centre in Bedfordview to celebrate this occasion.
After
almost 49 years of marriage, Geoff sadly lost his wife May in
February 2004. Together they had four sons and 10 grandchildren.
Recently
Geoff married Maria Smidt, thereby acquiring an additional three
children and five grandchildren.
Mynhardt,
the eldest son, is the managing director, since 1996, of the
Baars Group, consisting of G.C. Baars (Pty) Ltd in Germiston,
Valvecraft in Durban, Valvecraft in Richards Bay, Valvecraft in
Port Elizabeth, Valvetech (Cape) in Cape Town and Highveld
Instrumentation in Germiston.
André,
the second son, has his own practice as a general surgeon on the
West Rand and is a non-executive director of the Baars Group.
Geoffrey,
the third son, is an actuary and is a founder member and Group
Managing Director of NMG Holdings, an international company of
financial services consultants and lives in Perth, Australia.
Barry,
the youngest son, is managing director of Valvetech in Alrode,
importer and wholesaler of commodity valves selling to the trade
